Information for tenants
Please read the information below to ensure you understand the requirements.
Under Victorian legislation, Rental Providers (landlords) are required to ensure the following safety checks are carried out at the property they lease. Depending on the type of safety check needed, our licensed tradespeople will inspect the following:
Smoke Alarm Safety Check (Every year)
Our Licensed Electricians will need to activate and test smoke alarms and change batteries.
(Approximately 30 minutes)
Electrical Safety Check (Every 2 years)
Our Licensed Electricians will need to access all rooms, including garages, sheds, roof spaces, and outdoor areas. All accessible power points, light switches, electrical appliances and switchboard will be inspected.
Please be aware that the power must be turned off while checking safety switches or for any on the spot repair works.
(Approximately 1-2 hours)
Gas Safety Check (Every 2 years)
Our Licensed Gas Fitters will need to inspect all gas appliances, including heating systems, hot water units, cooking appliances and the main gas line.
(Approximately 1-2 hours)
- If the gas leak is traced to a specific appliance, only that appliance will be shut off.
- If the gas leak cannot be isolated, the entire gas supply to the property will be turned off.
- Your Property Manager will be notified immediately, and they will coordinate any necessary repairs as quickly as possible.
